What PCOS Truly Is (In My Opinion) and Why There’s No “Cure”

Disclaimer: I am not a health professional. What I share here is based on my personal understanding and experiences. Please consult a qualified health professional for proper diagnosis.

When I was first diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), I was overwhelmed with questions: Why me? What does this mean? Is there a cure? Over the years, I’ve come to understand that while PCOS is complex, there is hope. You can reverse your symptoms, but it takes time, intention, and sometimes a major shift in your approach to health and lifestyle.

PCOS Is a Syndrome, Not a Disease

PCOS is not a disease it’s a syndrome, which means it’s a collection of symptoms that can manifest differently for each individual. These symptoms like irregular periods, hormonal imbalances, and insulin resistance are often signs of underlying issues in the body. It’s not a single problem with a single solution.

The journey to managing or even reversing PCOS symptoms requires uncovering what is driving those symptoms for you whether it’s inflammation, stress, insulin resistance, or something else entirely.

My Journey to Symptom Reversal

In 2022, I experienced a breakthrough that I now consider a complete reversal of my PCOS symptoms. For the first time since my diagnosis, my hormones were balanced, I felt amazing physically, mentally, and emotionally, and I had no lingering symptoms. What made the difference?

I went back to Jamaica, where I reconnected with nature and a way of life that was simpler and more in tune with the earth.

I ate from the earth, consuming fresh, whole foods that nourished my body and minimized inflammation.

I drank bush tea, herbal remedies passed down through generations, which supported my body’s natural rhythms and healing.

I soaked in sunshine daily, replenishing my vitamin D levels and reconnecting with the outdoors in a way that felt grounding and healing.

This combination of natural nourishment, herbal medicine, and a stress-free environment allowed my body to reset. For months, I felt like the best version of myself.

The Reality of Returning to the U.S.

When I returned to the United States, the symptoms began to creep back. The change in environment, diet, and lifestyle disrupted the balance I had achieved. This experience solidified an important truth for me:

PCOS symptoms can be reversed, but maintaining that reversal often depends on sustaining the practices and environment that support balance.

What I’ve Learned About Reversing Symptoms

While I don’t believe there’s a “cure” for PCOS in the traditional sense, I know firsthand that you can reverse symptoms and feel your best. But it requires time, patience, and often a willingness to rethink how you approach your health.

Here are some key lessons from my experience:

Healing Is Holistic: PCOS isn’t just about hormones it’s about how your body, mind, and environment interact.

Food Is Medicine: Eating whole, nutrient-dense foods can have a profound impact on symptoms.

Nature Heals: Exposure to sunlight, fresh air, and the grounding energy of nature can do wonders for physical and mental well-being.

Herbs Are Powerful: Herbal teas and remedies, like the bush tea I drank in Jamaica, can support the body in ways that modern medicine often overlooks.

Environment Matters: Stress, pollution, and processed foods all play a role in disrupting balance.

Why There’s No “One-Size-Fits-All Cure”

What worked for me might not work for someone else. PCOS is deeply individual, and reversing symptoms involves discovering what your body needs to thrive. For some, it may be managing insulin resistance; for others, it might involve reducing inflammation or addressing hormonal imbalances.

But one thing is clear: with the right lifestyle changes, patience, and commitment, it is possible to experience a complete transformation.

Final Thoughts

PCOS has taught me that healing isn’t about perfection it’s about progress. Reversing symptoms doesn’t mean you’ll never face challenges again, but it does mean you can regain control, reconnect with your body, and live in alignment with what works for you.

If you’re on this journey, know that it’s okay to take it one step at a time. And remember, your path may look different from mine, but the goal is the same: balance, health, and thriving on your own terms.
